Classes

Teaching dogs is really about teaching people. And most people aren't aware of all the new, really positive dog training methods available today. Our job is arm you with the latest, best training practices, then help you apply them to your pet. Yet even with all advances in positive training, it still takes a lot of skill, good timing, and practice to train a dog. So we work with you in small classes, to provide you with hands-on coaching and real-world methods to help you transform your pet into a loving, polite, and safe member of your household.

Classes here are convenient - offered seven days a week, just 20 minutes from downtown Seattle; 10 minutes from Bellevue, Renton, and Snoqulamie. They are also insightful, creative, and effective. Over eighty percent of our students pass their Puppy S.T.A.R. and Canine Good Citizen evaluations (think of them as SATs for dogs) on the first try. View Current Schedule

Puppy Party!

Our fun, drop-in socializing class designed for very young puppies, under four months of age. This is a critical social period for your puppy, however it is too early to expose your dog to the unpredictable environment of dog parks. In this class, your puppy will get to practice proper social behavior with other healthy, vaccinated puppies in a safe, structured environment. No prior training is necessary; all puppies must have first set of DHLPP vaccinations and be enrolled in a Riverdog Puppy 101 Obedience class to participate. If your puppy has outgrown Puppy Party, but is still too young for our regular Day C.A.M.P., check out our Puppy KinderPlay

For puppies 3 - 5 months of age, this class starts every puppy off right, including the basics (sit, down, stay, off, come), plus walking on a loose leash, sharing, house-training, crate training, positive reinforcement, and most importantly - structured socialization! This is a critical time for your puppy to learn proper social behavior, how to tolerate gentle handling, how to share food and other resources, and the beginnings of self control. Motivating your dog, playing good-habit-forming games, training equipment, leadership, and basic communication language are stressed. Small and toy breed puppies may attend up through 12 months of age.

Puppy 102 S.T.A.R. Obedience

Your puppy will be entering into the pushy 'teenage' stage and testing you, so solid leadership and practice of good behavior is essential to continue your pup's good progress. All students explore appropriate training equipment and usage, which is customized to each pet. Puppies take the A.K.C. Puppy S.T.A.R. certification on the last week of class. Note: if you have a 5-9 month old dog who has not been enrolled in our Puppy 101 Class, go directly to 'Basic 101 Obedience' below.

This class will accommodate only 6 dogs to ensure effective learning and practice. All participants must complete a questionnaire that will be submitted at the first class meeting.
