In fact, we have an entire program available to you - free of charge - for the sole purpose of yapping and getting to the bottom of your questions (see Behavior Evaluation ) So if you can't find the answers to your questions here, then call, click or "Speak!" to us. We'll be glad to yap about our basic policies, health & happiness requirements, and anything else you'd like to know about what we do, how we do it, and why every Riverdog is a good dog.

What Makes Riverdog A Breed Apart?

Nobody in the Puget Sound region trains and cares for dogs like we do. Our programs are developed in consultation with the finest trainers in the world. And we never stop learning: we continually update our methods, seeking out and studying with leading dog behaviorists to ensure that our daycare and training programs are based on the best concepts and research. Most importantly, we know our superior skills are only helpful if we’re as good with people as we are with pooches. So we give as much positive reinforcement to our staff as we do to the dogs. And we only hire gifted dog enthusiasts who are as adept at working with you as they are at working with your pup.

What Are Your Shared Values?

We Really are a people business first, a dog business second.
We Insist on bringing a positive and passionate approach to our work.
We Value education, experience, and the deep desire to hone our craft.
We Engage sincerely and honestly with all people in all communications.
We Relish innovation and change as the keys to growing our business.
We Drive ourselves hard, yet also recognize the value of play and relaxation.
We Obsess over our work environment to ensure that it is clean and healthy.
We Guarantee that you won’t ever – ever – see us rest on our laurels.

How Does Riverdog Measure Success?

We believe that success can be measured in several ways. We take great care to document our results, and our reputation is well earned. Nearly all of our Puppy 102 graduates earn their AKC S.T.A.R. certifications on the first test, and 85% of Riverdog canine students pass their AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluation on the first try, at an average age of just 15 months.

Even so, being successful with dogs isn’t as important to us as being successful with people. After nearly ten years in business, the majority of our clients still arrive having been referred by other clients who are friends or family. We receive canine behavior referrals from nearly all of the veterinarians in the Valley. Our staff turnover is lower than all of Fortune’s Best Companies To Work For in this region. And we are proud to be recognized as the winner of the Washington State Psychologically Healthy Small Business Workplace Award, 425 Magazine’s Best of Issaquah Award, and a finalist for the Eastside Chamber of Commerce’s Innovative Business Award.

Do You Guarantee Your Training?

YES! Although no one can guarantee learning, we always guarantee our training services. What it means is that we will work with you to make sure that you get your money's worth out of our services and that we find a way to help you improve your relationship and communication with your dog. In Training C.A.M.P. it takes the form of our Lifetime Guarantee of Support (for details, see one of our Trainers.) In Classes, that means we will allow you to retake our signature Basic Obedience 101 as many times as you wish, with the same dog, at no charge.

What Are Your Refund Policies for Classes?

Pre-registration and pre-payment are required for all classes. Receipt of payment assures your reservation for class. Payment for class is processed 7-14 days prior to the start of class date. Classes are not transferable or pro-rated. Once you have registered for a class, the refund policy is as follows:

* 100% Refund: Cancellations received > 14 calendar days from start date
* 75% Refund: Cancellations received 7-13 calendar days from start date
* 50% Refund: Cancellations received < 7 calendar days prior to start date
* 0% Refund: Cancellations received after the class start date.

Note: While there are no cash refunds given after a class starts, if you decide to drop your class we will provide a non-cash refund of a $15 credit for each unattended class towards the use of other Riverdog services (not products) or enrollment in another class. No cash refunds after class start date.

We strongly recommend you come and observe a class that you are considering enrolling in, to be sure you believe it is the right class for you. We do not give cash refunds for any reason if you decide drop your class after it starts.

What Are Your Refund Policies for C.A.M.P?

Our policy is clear, and firm: We do not offer cash refunds. This is because ultimately the success of C.A.M.P. is determined not only by Riverdog, but also by you: your commitment to coaching sessions, how you implement recommended homework, and the time you put into working with your dog after C.A.M.P. That said, we are firmly committed to being the best company we can be, and making good on our promise to give you your money's worth. If you are not satisfied with one of our services, we will provide several options to help you get the most out of your money in some other way.

What is Your Change Policy for Classes?

If you change your registration for a different class date/time less than 7 working days prior to the originally registered class start date, there will be a $35 change fee in addition to the original class price. This also includes transferring to another class after the originally registered class has started.

We strongly recommend you come and observe the class you are considering taking, prior to enrolling, to be sure you believe it is the right class for you.

Which Class Is Right For Me?

Sometimes its hard to know exactly which class to enroll in. Below are some general guidelines, however if you don't find the answer you are looking for, then please let us help! A great way to start is to schedule a complimentary Behavior Evaluation so we can sit down with you and sort all the options out.

If you have a puppy:
- who will be 12-20 wks old by the class start date: Puppy 101 Obedience
- who is 5+ months old and a Puppy 101 graduate: Puppy 102 Obedience

If you have a dog or puppy:
- who is 5+ months and has never been to Riverdog: Basic Obedience
- who is 7+ months and is a Basic Obedience graduate: Beyond Basic 102, CGC Prep Class, Outdoor Excursion, Agility & Tricks 101

If this is your first time at Riverdog, and you have a pet who has graduated from a basic or puppy obedience class at another facility but you would like to try an intermediate class here, we ask you to set up a short meeting with the instructor before enrolling.

Do I Bring My Dog on the First Night of Class?

It depends on the class. Puppy 101 and Reactive Rover classes are structured so that you leave your pet at home for the first class. The discussion of how the class will function and how we will be achieving your specific goals are critical to the success of the class. In all other classes, we do want your dog or puppy to come with you to the first class. While we talk about how dogs learn, and set the stage for the next several weeks of class, your pet will be learning important things like “I’m Not Always The Center of Attention” and “How to be Quiet In Class”, along with our famous Structured Recess activities (puppy classes only.)

What Do I Need To Bring for Class?

Generally, most classes require that you bring your pet, on a leash, some tasty treats, and a blanket or mat for your dog to lie on during the lecture portions of the class. There are a few additional items that you may need for certain classes, or certain situations, such as Beyond Basic Obedience, Outdoor Excursion, or the Intro to Tricks and Agility. These items will be discussed during the first class, and you will have the option of either purchasing them at class, or bringing them to on the second week:

Should All Family Members Attend Class?

Yes. At Riverdog, we like to have the whole family attend class, because its important that everyone in the home understands and is involved with the training.

Can Children Participate in Classes?

Yes! Children are always welcome, as long as parents are also present. In order to ensure the safety of everyone in the class, including your child, we have some basic classroom rules:

• When on the training floor, all kids must be participating in the classroom exercises and be able to stand or sit quietly with parents during any lecture portions of the class.
• Even if the dog “belongs” to your child, parents of kids ages 14 and under must first handle the dog for each exercise, then hand the leash to the child. We expect all parents to actively participate in class exercises.
• Children are welcome to hang out quietly in the Doghouse, to play quietly, draw, or read. Each parent is responsible for their child(ren) – there is ‘No Lifeguard On Duty” in the Doghouse. If you or your child choose to hang out in the Doghouse, we expect you/your child to remain there for the entire length of the class, in order to minimize disruption for students working out on the classroom floor. All lights in the Doghouse must remain on.

What if My Children Are To Young to Participate?

Children of all ages are always welcome at Riverdog. If they are too young to participate in class (see above guidelines), we ask that you have an additional adult come to class with you to supervise the kids. This is important, so that can you can concentrate on your work with the dog, and so that the children don't inadvertently wander into the muzzle of an unsuspecting canine student.

If I Miss a Class, Can I Make it Up?

Absolutely! We want you make up your missed classes, so that you will get the most out of your entire Riverdog session. If you have missed (or will be missing) one of your regularly scheduled classes, please check our Activity Calendar to find a make-up class that is convenient for you. To use the calendar, simply look for the ‘Class’ and ‘Week #’ that matches the week that you missed (or will be missing), and drop in on that day and time. (Note: For the safety of all students and pets in the class, there are no makeups allowed in Reactive Rover.)

What Happens if I Flunk Out of Class?

You won't! See the above guarantee! If you are coming to class and doing your homework during the week, we guarantee that you will not flunk out! There are no refunds for classes, so we will help you succeed. If the issues you are working on are better addressed outside of class, we will give you priority scheduling so that we can help you quickly with the problem at hand, and you can be successful with your dog.
