Week 2: Puppy Project
Nathan has progressed so quickly with his work on the Agility equipment! The first sign I see that proves he loves his Agility workout is that he is starting to recognize the names of all the pieces of equipment. “Nathan Tunnel” I call out before he races through the orange tube; “Nathan Jump!” as he leaps over the yellow Jump. He is clearly starting to understand what fun activity accompanies each command. Physically, I can see the improvement as well. His gait is much straighter, head held taller and I almost cannot notice the tilt of his head. Gone are the days when he hit his back legs on the jump, and his walk through the downed ladder is much straighter! He still needs some assistance weaving back and forth through the Weave Poles, but he has figured out how to manipulate his Left and Right turns and runs through quicker and without the pen to guide him!
July brought ‘Kids Camp’ to Riverdog and Nathan had an opportunity to socialize and show off! Meeting friendly kids at such a young age is essential socialization for any young pup, and especially for one that is going to grow to be 120 pounds! Nathan walked right up to the crowd of excited kids and started sniffing their outstretched, treat bearing hands… exactly what I wanted to see! After that the kids helped me ‘decide’ what the most appropriate equipment was to help rehab Nathan and they cheered him on as I ran him through the Agility sequence. He totally stole the show… such a superstar!
Nathan has made great strides in the few weeks that he has been working with Riverdog and his Agility equipment, and we look forward to see him continue to grow and progress. As Nathan has just turned 12 weeks old, he will be starting a new adventure… finding a new home! Stay tuned as we continue his story!
