Attaining Your Dog's "Canine Good Citizen" Award
The AKC Canine Good Citizen Certification is a nationally renowned program designed to reward owners of dogs who have good manners both at home and in the community. By training for - and achieving - your dog’s CGC certificate, you’ll also receive some fringe benefits, too:
BENEFIT #1: You will carve out some quality training time with your pet. Even the best dogs need a little tune up before taking the CGC test, so having a goal and date of attainment in focus will help most everyone make the time to train.
BENEFIT #2: Your dog’s overall abilities will improve. Almost everyone would like a better ‘stay’ or ‘come here’ command. Mastering the basics of the CGC will raise your dogs attentiveness and increase his/her skills int eh areas most important to you.
BENEFIT #3: You will be making a positive impact in your community. CGC dogs are good ambassadors for responsible dog ownership and care. They also help represent caring citizens who are looking to add dog-friendly parks and off-leash area in their neighborhoods.
BENEFIT #4: You will enjoy both personal and national recognition. You will feel great about attaining your goal, you’ll feel a closer bond with your pet, and you will receive a beautiful certificate from the AKC to honor your well-deserved accomplishment!
Benefit #5: You may save money. Your certificate will be proof that you are a responsible owner with a good, trained, and safe dog. Many homeowner’s insurance companies offer discounts to owners with CGC-certified pets.
So, how to go about getting your CGC? Twice yearly, Riverdog offers help by way of our CGC Prep Course. Each handler is guided through the ten exercises for our weeks, including a practice test. The actual certification test is at the end of the course, and is simply rated on a pass/fail basis. It's fun, and low stress.
And...you should know: 86% of Riverdog students pass on the first try!
We'll bet you can too!
